Melanie (Mel) has 13 years post admission experience in family and criminal law. She holds a Masters Degree in Journalism, and is writing her thesis for a Masters Degree in Criminal Practice through the University of Wollongong. She was admitted as a New South Wales Lawyer in 2006 and is also on the High Court Roll.
Mel has worked for herself and has been employed by large and mid-tier private firms on the East Coast in supervisory and regulatory roles.
She is warm, friendly and approachable and is someone who really listens to you, putting your needs first. She has a demonstrated track record in providing sound advice and representation for a range of matters from family law parenting and property matters to serious criminal matters including serious assaults, sexual assault, firearms, drugs, and explosives.
As an experienced family lawyer, Mel is child focused and trauma aware, preferring to take the heat out of a matter and negotiate a settlement where possible. Her criminal law background is useful for family law matters were there are allegations of violence and AVO applications.
Mel has lived in the Illawarra for over 30 years and practice law here and in the Shoalhaven for the last 13 years. She has a unique understanding of the region and the difficulties faced by family and criminal clients here.
When not “lawyering”, Mel can be found spending time with her horses, writing and taking photographs.
